La Liga club on Thursday announced that Barcelona star striker Lionel Messi would leave the team despite the agreement between two parties. The deal was obstructed citing different economic and structural obstacles that have hindered the negotiations.
The Barcelona team confirmed in a proclamation that ” Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish La Liga regulations)”.
The negotiations have not been fulfilled due to many alterations and now Lionel Messi would no longer be part of the Barcelona club. The fan club regrets that the wishes of the player as well as the club did not reach a happy end.
“FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life.”
The star striker was free to sign an agreement with other clubs when his contract with Barcelona ended in June but the club did not want to lose his star player, Messi. Every effort was in place to negotiate with the player. Messi did not want to deal with other clubs. Some news agencies reported that Messi has signed a five-year deal earlier with the Barcelona club but as it seems it was just a rumour.
The 34-year-old star earlier did try to resign from the club in August 2020 formally due to the rift with former president Josep Maria Bartomeu. But present successor Joan Laporta convinced Messi to continue playing for the team.
