Kathleen Mary Griffin, the American comedian cum actress revealed the most darkest and traumatic phase of her life, including her attempt to suicide in 2020.
The actress on Monday morning, via her social media, announced that she is diagnosed with lung cancer. In an interview with ABC News ‘Nightline,’ she also shared her mental health journey, her addiction to pills, her suicidal attempt, etc.
Griffin, 60 recalled her trauma and said, “I started thinking about suicide more and more as I get into the pill addiction. And it became almost an obsessive thought. I started really convincing myself it was a good decision.”
The comedian told the co-anchor, Juju Chang, “I got my living revocable trust in order. I had all my ducks in a row. I wrote the note, the whole thing. And I just thought, ‘I’ll just take a bunch of pills, and I will just go to sleep.'”
After her attempt to suicide, Kathy was in touch with a doctor, and her husband, ‘Randy Bick’ supported her in tough times. Notably, she said, “I was first introduced to pills via Provigil, a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of excessive sleepiness. I was later prescribed Ambien help me sleep, and then painkillers after various injuries.”
She further said, “To be honest, it really kicked into high gear when the Trump thing happened. Prior to then, I’m going to say I was, like, dallying with a pill addiction in a way that wasn’t good. But then, after that happened [with Trump], I just thought, ‘Who cares?'”
Kathy continued and noted, “I am so thrilled and grateful [that] at 60, I’m going to get the next chapter. That’s the thing everyone said wasn’t going to happen, [and it was something] I believed wasn’t going to happen. And even I thought, even if I do get the next chapter, what is that? Me sitting around and never working again? And no — I think, kind of, anything is possible.”
