Sweeney has already collaborated with Sony Pictures, notably in the Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web, in which she featured with Dakota Johnson. The actress is gearing up to star in and produce a film adaptation of Madison Lawson’s novel The Registration, for which Sony has reportedly purchased the rights.

Sweeney, once again collaborating with Sony Pictures, will star as Barbarella in place of Fonda. Reportedly, production on the science fiction adaptation has just begun and there has been no hiring of a writer or director. The film is scheduled for a late 2023/early 2024 release.

The main role will be played by Sydney Sweeney. Sweeney’s participation in the movie was confirmed when she posted a photo of the film’s first poster on Instagram, which features the film’s titular space heroine at the film’s centre.

Despite its poor performance at the box office, “The Forest” has become a cult favourite, and in 2020, Mark Forest’s estate said that the actor and filmmaker was working on a sequel.
