Background of Hereditary –

The director’s initial plan was to make the film a family tragedy. But later, he divided the movie into two parts. In 1st part of the film, family tragedy is shown, and the 2nd part of the film is full of horror. A real-life incident from 2004 in Marietta, Georgia reflects in the script. John Kemper Hutcherson accidentally beheaded Frankie Brohm, his childhood friend, and passenger on a telephone pole after Frankie puts his head out of the window from the vehicle to relieve his symptoms of intoxication. John drove with the body without the head and fell asleep. A passerby sees the head still struck and informs the authorities.

Toni Collette was the 1st actress the director thought of for the role of Annie Graham. Initially, she was reluctant to do the role but later agreed. Gabriel Byrne was cast for the family’s patriarch Steve, and Alex Wolff was cast as the Grahams’ son Peter. Milly Shapiro was selected for the role of the daughter Charlie. Ann Dowd portrays a grieving mother, Joan. In February 2017, the filming began shooting in Utah. The trailer for the film was released on January 30, 2018.
